- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 3 cups cake flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
- Frosting
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 or 13×18 pan.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs one at a time.
- Sift cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the batter until smooth.
- Pour into pan and bake 18–38 minutes depending on pan size.
- Cool completely in pan.
- Beat butter until creamy for frosting.
- Add powdered sugar and whip until fluffy.
- Add cream, vanilla, and salt; whip until light and smooth.
- Spread frosting over cooled cake and serve.

- Use cake flour and avoid substitutions for best texture.
- Do not overmix batter.
- Store at room temperature up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer storage.
