- ¾ cup unsweetened applesauce
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ginger
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- Brown Butter Frosting
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp salt
- 3 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
- ¼ cup whole milk
Instructions
- Brown the butter by cooking until golden brown and nutty. Chill until solidified.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line cupcake pan.
- Mix applesauce, sugar, oil, egg, and vanilla in a bowl.
- Whisk dry ingredients separately, then combine with wet ingredients.
- Fill cupcake liners and bake 18–21 minutes. Cool completely.
- Beat browned butter with vanilla and salt until creamy.
- Add powdered sugar and milk gradually until fluffy frosting forms.
- Pipe or spread frosting onto cooled cupcakes and serve.
Notes
- Do not frost cupcakes until fully cooled.
- Store in airtight container for 3–4 days.
- Reduce frosting quantity for a lighter topping.
