Caramelitas are rich, gooey bars combining velvety caramel, chocolate, and buttery oats. This family-favorite dessert is perfect for indulgent snacking or sharing with loved ones.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 bars

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 bag soft caramels (about 11 oz)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt caramels with heavy cream over medium heat until smooth. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, flour, rolled oats, and baking soda until combined.
  4. Press half of oat mixture into the bottom of the pan to form crust.
  5. Bake crust for 10 minutes. Remove and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the crust. Pour caramel mixture on top.
  6. Spread remaining oat mixture over caramel layer.
  7. Bake for an additional 20 minutes or until top is golden brown.
  8. Cool completely before cutting into bars and serving.

Notes

  • For easier cutting, refrigerate the bars for 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Optional: Add chopped nuts for extra crunch.
