Easy Homemade Strawberry Danish Recipe – Flaky Puff Pastry with Cream Cheese Filling

Strawberry Danish are flaky puff pastries filled with a sweetened cream cheese mixture, topped with fresh strawberries, and optionally finished with strawberry jam or a vanilla glaze.

  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten with 1 tsp water
  • 2-3 tbsp sugar for topping, optional
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam, optional
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Thaw puff pastry at room temperature for 30-45 minutes.
  2. Toss strawberries with sugar and cornstarch and let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Unfold puff pastry and cut into six smaller rectangles. Score 1/4 inch border on each.
  5. Spread 1 tbsp cream cheese filling in the center of each rectangle and top with strawberries. Brush edges with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
  6. Chill prepped danishes in fridge 15-20 minutes if dough is sticky.
  7. Bake 20-25 minutes until light golden brown. Cool 5 minutes on sheet, then transfer to rack.
  8. Top with warm strawberry jam or drizzle vanilla glaze (powdered sugar, milk, vanilla) over cooled pastries.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Serve at room temperature or warm for best flavor. Variations: make without cream cheese or as braided danish.
