- 4 cups sliced strawberries
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten with 1 tsp water
- 2-3 tbsp sugar for topping, optional
- 1/4 cup strawberry jam, optional
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2-3 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Thaw puff pastry at room temperature for 30-45 minutes.
- Toss strawberries with sugar and cornstarch and let sit for 15 minutes.
- Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Unfold puff pastry and cut into six smaller rectangles. Score 1/4 inch border on each.
- Spread 1 tbsp cream cheese filling in the center of each rectangle and top with strawberries. Brush edges with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
- Chill prepped danishes in fridge 15-20 minutes if dough is sticky.
- Bake 20-25 minutes until light golden brown. Cool 5 minutes on sheet, then transfer to rack.
- Top with warm strawberry jam or drizzle vanilla glaze (powdered sugar, milk, vanilla) over cooled pastries.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Serve at room temperature or warm for best flavor. Variations: make without cream cheese or as braided danish.
