- 4 large cooking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 tbsp Demerara sugar
- 2 cups blackberries
- 2 tbsp cold butter, cubed (or vegan alternative)
- 2 cups self-raising flour (or plain flour with pinch of baking powder)
- 1 1/4 cups golden caster sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed (or vegan alternative)
- 3 tbsp Demerara sugar (or optional crushed cookies for extra crunch)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Toss apples with lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, and Demerara sugar in a large baking dish.
- Gently fold in blackberries and sprinkle cubed butter on top. Cover and bake for 20 minutes.
- Prepare crumble topping: Mix flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Rub in butter until mixture forms small lumps. Add crushed cookies or Demerara sugar if desired.
- Remove fruit from oven, top with crumble mixture, and return to oven for 30 minutes until topping is golden and filling bubbles.
- Cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream, custard, or cream.
Notes
- Use Bramley apples for a tart, firm filling.
- Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of the fruit.
- For extra crunch, add crushed cookies to the topping.
