  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Cinnamon Filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Mix buttermilk and vanilla extract. Add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Press dough evenly into prepared baking pan.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Drizzle melted butter over dough and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely in pan.
  9. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  10. Spread frosting over cooled bars and cut into squares.
