- For the Base
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- For the Cinnamon Filling
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- For the Cream Cheese Frosting
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Whisk flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Mix buttermilk and vanilla extract. Add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Press dough evenly into prepared baking pan.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Drizzle melted butter over dough and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely in pan.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
- Spread frosting over cooled bars and cut into squares.
Notes
- For variation, top with a sprinkle of additional cinnamon before serving.
