- 2 3/4 cups plus 2 tbsp (384g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup (224g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 1/4 cups (259g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Red and green gel icing color
- 3–4 tbsp sprinkles, optional
Instructions
- Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 2-3 minutes.
- Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
- Add dry ingredients and mix until dough forms a cohesive, non-sticky ball.
- Divide dough in half. Color one half red, the other green. Wrap in plastic and chill 20-30 minutes.
- Roll out each color into 8×14 inch rectangles between parchment paper. Chill for 5-10 minutes.
- Layer red dough over green dough, align edges, and roll into logs. Cut logs in half, wrap, and chill at least 2 hours until firm.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment.
- Slice logs into ½ inch pieces, optionally roll edges in sprinkles. Place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
- Bake 9-12 minutes until edges are just lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet, then transfer to wire rack.
- Store in airtight container, best within 4-5 days.
